Research Areas
Genetic controls of virulence and development in fungi.
Current Interests
"Fungi play both beneficial and detrimental roles in human endeavors. Research in the laboratory is focused on how fungi recognize their environment to change behavioral traits. Of particular interest is light-sensing in pathogenic and other model fungi (eg. Cryptococcus neoformans and Phycomyces blakesleeanus), and virulence mechanisms in pathogenic fungi (C. neoformans). We use genetic approaches to gain insights into the molecular basis of these properties, with the long-term goal of developing strategies to reduce the adverse effects of fungi."
