F.A.Q - Frequently Asked Questions, Answered!
| FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I find application forms and instructions? Answer: All application instructions and forms are on-line here. Answer: Students that are admitted to full-time research (Ph.D.) degree programs at SBS are awarded full GTA fellowships during their first year and GRA fellowships for the next 4 years (~$22,000 per year) if progress towards the degree remains satisfactory. Part-time and non-research Masters students do not receive aid from SBS. Apply for limited (!) institutional aid for US or international students. Answer: Typically 5 years, starting from a baccalaureate degree. Just look at a sample Ph.D. program. Answer: No. Virtually all classes are offered in the daytime. More importantly, to earn a Ph.D. you must do laboratory research full-time for 3 years or more. SBS offers you the opportunity to do this by providing adequate financial support. Answer: The M.S. in Cell and Molecular Biology has a course-masters, non-thesis option. It requires coursework and some laboratory research but it does not require a thesis project. It can be completed on a part-time basis, however most classes are offered during daytime hours. Answer: Sometimes. The teaching requirement of doctoral students during their first year typically provides the School with TA's (Teaching Assistants) for all laboratory classes. However, during some semesters additional TA's are needed. M.S. students (full-time or part-time) are the first to be asked whether they would want to teach in exchange for a tuition waiver (now at 6 graduate credit hours for 3 sections taught). Answer: The Institution code for UMKC is 6872 and the Department code for the School of Biological Sciences is 0203. These are the codes that the GRE and TOEFL Testing Agencies require to inform SBS of your test results. Answer: SBS needs to receive official transcripts in a sealed envelope of the sending institution. You can enclose that sealed letter when you send us all application forms by mail OR you can ask the sending institution to send it to us directly to the mail address below. Answer: Ask your letter writer to send it directly to us to the address below. They may choose to use the on-line Reference Form within a Web browser, then print and mail to us. Answer: Send all mail to: Graduate Programs |
