SBS Application Instructions

Abbreviated Instructions for completing ApplyNow! and GRASP applications

Only parts of the ApplyNow! application are required for the SBS Graduate Program – they are indicated below by an ‘*’ before the description.

Begin the application process through the ApplyNow! icon on the UMKC home page

(It is strongly recommended to use MS Internet Explorer as your web browser while formatting incompatibilities are remedied)

After registering with the system, there are 8 screens to navigate. SBS only requires information in Screens 1, 2, and 4. Other screens should be ignored.

*Screen 1

Provide your name and permanent address.

*Screen 2

Provide and e-mail address and all required citizenship information. Optional Information, Additional Information, and Former Address are not necessary for SBS graduate applications and should be ignored.

Permanent residents will need their alien registration number (I-94 or ‘greencard’).

If applicant does not have a I94 card, answer ‘No’ when asked if you are a US Permanent Resident.

Non-residents will need Visa permit type. If you are unsure what visa type you need, enter ‘F1’ student visa

Screen 3

Contact Information is not necessary for SBS graduate applications and should be ignored.

*Screen 4

This is your declaration of degree and discipline intent. Two options are recommended for admission into a research graduate degree in SBS

Entrance into the M.S. in Cellular and Molecular Biology. If this is your intent, select Cellular & Molecular Biology, M

Entrance into the IPh.D. program in either CBB or MBB. If this is your intent, select Multi/Interdisciplinary St PhD (abbreviated M/I ST-PHD). Coordinating and co-disciplines are not indicated here, but are declared in the SBS Supplemental Application.

Screen 5

This is where you may enter your GRE scores. Although it is optional in these forms to provide this information, it is helpful if it is submitted. You must provide this information in the SBS Supplemental Application. International students should also enter TOEFL and TWE scores.

Screen 6

Education information does not need to be entered as it is included in the SBS Supplemental Application.

Screen 7

Recent employment does not need to be entered as it is included in the SBS Supplemental Application.

Screen 8

Acceptance into SBS graduate programs does not require a Statement of Purpose. A more complete Narrative Statement is required in the SBS Supplemental Application.

*Completion

Completion of ApplyNow!: On-line payment of the application fee is provided by credit card. Visa, MasterCard, and Discover are the only cards accepted.

GRASP Instructions

Domestic students:

You do not need to complete any components in GRASP for the SBS graduate program application. This information is supplied instead by the SBS Supplemental Application Form.

International students:

Fill out GRASP for financial and documentation information only.

From the GRASP Menu select and complete ‘International Information,’ ‘Financial Information,’ and ‘International Documents.’

Note that GRASP input is not available until application fee is paid in ApplyNow!

All other information is supplied by the SBS Supplemental Application Form.
