UMKC School of Biological Sciences

Undergraduate Research Opportunities

As an undergraduate in the School of Biological Sciences you have the unique opportunity to work in state-of-the-art laboratories alongside faculty actively involved in current biological research.

There are several avenues for undergraduate research:

Saper Vedere SBS Scholars.

Our premiere program, the Saper Vedere Scholars Program, is for those students who want to immerse themselves in a year round program providing laboratory research experience and a variety of intellectual and social activities. Students engage in discovery-based learning and daily mentor/pupil interaction to live the life of a junior scientist. Scholars receive tuition remission and a summer stipend.

SBS Honors Program.

Students in the Honors Program are matched with an individual faculty mentor. As an honors student, you are included in scholarly and social events of the School of Biological Sciences graduate program, special seminars and study trips.

Undergraduate Research.

Students gain laboratory research experience beyond their classroom course work under the guidance of a faculty member. Students choose an area of interest for either short- or long-term projects. Students may obtain course credit for undergraduate research under the guidance of a faculty member.

For more information about undergraduate research at SBS, contact Dr. Lynda Plamann.
